Libertytown
Frederick County, Maryland, USA (North America) – December 2018 — Libertytown, Maryland It’s a relatively small country town located on the outskirts of Frederick County. It has one Elementary School in the district and shares and Middle and High School with the Linganore area. In August each year, the town of Libertytown has a parade that last for about an hour and includes local areas fire departments, police, bands, scouts, floats, candy being tossed etc. Its a really fun experience and free! The nearest grocery store is about 15minutes away but there is a local Dollar General that has all the one stop necessities. The fire department holds a yearly carnival, but since the town is so small, the carnival is just as small. This last year in 2018, they were unsure if they would continue the carnival because they cannot find a company to bring in rides to such a small area. There is hardly any crime which makes it to be a pleasant and quiet area to live. Within the community there is a park for kids to play which also allows pets as long as you clean up after them and sidewalks through town. During Halloween, the people that live in town all participate and hand out candy; they make sure its a fun experience for the little ones. The school also does a trunk or treat. Its a great area!
Washington Grove
Montgomery County, Maryland, USA (North America) – December 2018 — I live in a little town in suburban Maryland called Washington Grove, about 20 miles outside of Washington, DC. The town bills itself as “the Town within a Forest.” It has about 450 residents, and is an old Methodist revival camp that was originally founded in the 1870’s as people would get out of Washington, DC for summer religious retreats. The town still has a lot of the old charm–it is laid out with a “sacred circle” at the center, and it features walk-ways throughout. In that respect, it is meant to foster neighborliness–the houses all face the walk-ways rather than the roads and avenues. The town is great for families. It is bordered on 2 sides by forest preserves that are rife with wildflife, it has a playground and ball field, a town hall (and it’s own town governance) and an honest to goodness swimming lake, complete with lifeguards and swimming lessons for the summer months. The lake often freezes in the winter and kids and teens will ice skate or play hockey on it. The schools are strong performers, and town is always hosting seasonal events and get togethers to encourage a feeling of belonging. In that regard, I guess the thing that I like least about it is that people seem to love it so much (as we do) that they stay forever, so the median age keeps creeping up to the point that it feels partially like a retirement community. Nonetheless, many younger families like us are starting to discover it and seek it out. We couldn’t be happier here!

Germantown
Montgomery County, Maryland, USA (North America) — There are a lot of resources around as well as natural scenery. If I had to choose, I don’t like the cold weather during the winter. It’s a suburb of Washington DC home to many government contractors. It’s near Rockville and Gaithersburg. Believe it or not, after Baltimore it’s the most populous area in all of Maryland. Really hot and humid summers, pretty chilly winters but nothing like the Northeast or Midwest. I’ve lived here for 12 years and honestly, it hasn’t changed much. I do notice new roads and some apartment buildings constructed but besides that no major change.
Towson
Baltimore County, Maryland, USA — March 2018 — towson lies 8 miles north of baltimore maryland towson is a college town with two universities within walking distance of downtown section called towson circle. from the circle many apartments and condominiums exist. we have several high end retail and grocery stores. towson circle is considered a walking community and has also an abundance of dining options from fast casual to high end dining. something for everyone including juice bars and regular bars. towson circle also boost several yoga studios and gyms to keep fit and lean. i have lived in towson for 13 years now and in the heart of towson several new developments are up and coming to enhance the vibrancy and walkability of the area and provide a more dense urban like appeal. i like all these features of towson and all the new construction taking place. the weather is not as warm as i would like it to be and the fact that it lies in the baltimore area just 8 miles north of the center of baltimore is also a drawback for me but i feel the area is exciting and up in coming in the region so i enjoy living here for the time being.another nice feature is that you do not need a car because everything is within a 10 minute walk.now that is a real plus and makes it more of a green friendly city in my opinion.
Oakland
Garrett County, Maryland, USA (North America)– March 2018 — It is a small town in a rural area. The area is family-focused and popular with visitors to nearby ski resorts and a lake. Oakland is very close to the West Virginia border. The surrounding area is great for outdoor recreation. I would recommend the town to anyone looking to live in a more rural area, but not to single individuals looking for social and dating opportunities. Oakland, MD is an Appalachian town with antique stores and several places to eat. There is an interesting train exhibit and museum nearby. The community facilities are excellent, including a community center, library, and schools. The best restaurants in town are Tomanetti’s, Englanders, and Cornish Coffee Shop. The best nearby parks are Broadford Lake Park, Herrington Manor, Swallow Falls, and Deep Creek Lake State Park. There are a number of festivals throughout the year including Autumn Glory, Winterfest, and some summer sidewalk sales. The women’s salon Nola is popular with residents and visitors alike. The town has not changed much in 25 years, and many people appreciate this. Some businesses in the town have come and gone. One new store that is interesting is an offshoot of the local Arts Council and features the work of local artists.
